Day 1
Nemi is a quiet, typical Italian village built on the top of the hill, in the Castelli Romani area. Here there is everything you want from an Italian hilltop village: winding cobbled street, food shops, nature, amazing view on the volcanic lake and culture sites. The speciality is wild strawberries and every year, on the first Sunday of June, there is the Strawberry Festival.
Once we have arrived in Nemi’s historical centre we will enjoy a welcome drink and strawberry pastry. We will be welcomed by our Storywalking representative who will brief us about the journey. We will then have dinner in a local, typical restaurant and stay at a characteristic B&B.
Day 2
We will visit to the village, its artisans and beauties like the Museum of Roman Ships. It was built by Mussolini and hosted the Emperor Caligula’s two massive ships. The boats nearly covered the small lake and were like two floating palaces, one had a temple, and both were around 250 feet long and 70 feet wide.
We will then have lunch and meet the “Fragolara” (Strawberry picker) who will brief us about this amazing event.
Free time.
Day 3
We will admire the parade where girls of all ages wearing the traditional costumes (red skirt, black corset, white blouse and the mandible on the head), walk the streets of the village distributing the strawberries.
We will enjoy the Festival that takes place under the banner of joy with concerts, flag-waving processions and tastings with an extraordinary fireworks display on the banks of the volcanic lake. As well as the fruit there is also an exhibition of flowers: local florists embellish with their creations some scenes of the historical centre.
