Day 1
Step into the footsteps of musical legends as you journey through Venice, uncovering the city’s deep connection with Richard Wagner and Antonio Vivaldi. This immersive tour will take you through grand palaces, hidden corners where history and music intertwine.
Description
Begin at Palazzo Vendramin Calergi, Wagner’s final residence, where the composer spent his last years before passing away in 1883. Today, the palace houses a small Wagner Museum, preserving his legacy. From there, a private water taxi will glide along the Grand Canal to Palazzo Giustiniani, where Wagner composed the legendary Act II love duet of Tristan and Isolde—one of opera’s most passionate moments. You will listen to this music from your taxi.
Sail to the site of the Ospedale della Pietà, the renowned orphanage where Vivaldi worked as a music director from 1703 to 1720. Here, he trained young orphaned girls to form Europe’s first all-female orchestra, creating some of the most breathtaking music of the Baroque era. Though he composed operas, Vivaldi is best remembered for his violin masterpieces, including the timeless Four Seasons. You will listen to this music from your taxi.
Conclude your journey at the historic Teatro La Fenice (outside), Venice’s iconic opera house. Despite surviving two devastating fires, La Fenice has remained a beacon of musical excellence, premiering works by Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, Verdi, and contemporary composers like Stravinsky and Britten.
